Northwest Italian reds

A few weeks ago, Wine Press Northwest collected about 75 Northwest Italian reds, wines that use traditionally Italian varieties such as Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Barbera, Zinfandel, Primitivo and Dolcetto.

Most of these wines are made in small lots by winemakers with a passion for the grapes. And for the most part, the results of our blind judging were stunning. We found a lot to love with the different varieties and were amazed by the broad spectrum of styles offered in the Pacific Northwest.

The results of this judging will be in the Fall issue of Wine Press Northwest, which comes out in mid-September.

Meanwhile, check out our interview with Jessica Munnell, a former Chateau Ste. Michelle winemaker who served as one of our judges.
