The Wine Knows

My wife is in Wenatchee today, and she reported that veraison - the change in grapes from green to red - is easily apparent on the Wahluke Slope as she whizzed by at 60 mph. Grapes at Ginkgo Forest Winery and the various Milbrandt vineyards were coming along nicely.

In my backyard, grapes are in various states of reddening. Some clusters are almost completely purple, while others are just starting to show change. It's the same thing I see each year. In the next three weeks, most of the grapes should be dark purple and collecting sugar, waiting for harvest.
