Ste. Michelle Dry Riesling tops Riverside judgingChateau Ste. Michelle not only makes the most Riesling in the world - but it also produces some of the finest. This was proven once again this afternoon in Southern California. Ste. Michelle's 2007 Dry Riesling won the sweepstakes award for best white wine of the Riverside International Wine Competition, which concluded this afternoon. The wine retails for $12 and often can be found for under $10. Ste. Michelle also won a gold medal for its 2005 Indian Wells Cabernet Sauvignon, an $18 red. Around the Woodinville, Wash., winery, the Dry Riesling is nicknamed "Baby Eroica" by the winemaking team, in reference to similarities with the Eroica Riesling made by Ste. Michelle and Ernst Loosen of Germany. I haven't had time to sort through any other results yet but will get to them as soon as possible.
