Pairing wine with Jell-O

My wife pointed out an article in the recent issue of From House to Home magazine that pairs Jell-O with Moscato D'asti. As we have a 4-year-old and Jell-O is a major food group in our home, I took note.

Moscato D'asti is a light white wine made from the Muscat grape. It is low in alcohol, semi-sparkling and often sweet. A few Northwest wineries make great versions of this Italian treat, including:

-- Silvan Ridge in Eugene, Ore.

-- Tualatin Estate, a label of Willamette Valley Vineyards.

-- Latah Creek in Spokane, Wash.

A Moscato D'asti style of wine is absolutely refreshing, especially after a summer brunch or lunch on the patio.

With Jell-O? That we'll need to try.

How about Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies?

We were munching Thin Mints last night and I took a sip of the syrah still in my glass from dinner. Blech.

Normally chocolate and red wine is an easy pairing. What to do when you through mint in there? White wine?

Thin mints

That's a tough one that will require extensive research.

I don't think I would pair it with ice wine, though Jackson-Triggs' sparkling Riesling ice wine would be interesting to try.

You might think about how a Port would pair with that wafer-thin mint.
