Walter Dacon Wines the real deal

At Saturday night's Capital Food & Wine Fest* in Lacey, Wash., Walter Dacon Wines of nearby Shelton won best in show for its 2006 C'est Syrah Beaux.

This is no fluke.

Lloyd Anderson, owner/winemaker of Walter Dacon, has been producing stunning Syrahs since his first vintage in 2003. Each year, he has crafted three separate Syrahs, called C'est Syrah Beaux, C'est Syrah Belle and C'est Syrah Magnifique. He's now adding some other varieties to his line-up, including Sangiovese, Roussanne and Marsanne.

Each year, these wines wine gold medals at regional and national competitions, and Anderson has quickly gained the attention of those who understand and appreciate great Washington Syrahs.

If you haven't tried the Walter Dacon wines, now is the time.

Capital Food and Wine Festival

Great kudos to Lloyd and Ann for their incredible Syrahs and, perhaps more importantly, the consistency of their wines. Walter Dacon is a class act.

The Capital Food and Wine Festival benefits the St. Martin's University Alumnae Association and their scholarship/campus improvement efforts. This is one of the best wine events around and well worth attending. Next year is the festival's 20th anniversary (29 March 2009).

As Marketing and Sales guy for tiny Eaton Hill Winery in the Yakima Valley, I must note that EHW won two Gold Medals at the same event: 2005 (Estate) Cabernet Franc and 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon. We will be presenting these wines at Taste WA this weekend and, like Lloyd, would love to have readers of this blog stop by to say hello.

Thank you for the kind words! I'd like to tie this in to the discussion on best sites for Syrah. As you know, all of our Syrahs are vineyard blends (w/one exception, "Appanage" which is 100% Boushey Vineyards). The wine receiving the "Best of Show" at the Capital Food & Wine Festival is a blend of 60% Destiny Ridge Vineyard (HHH), 17% Scott Williams (RM), 13% Elephant Mountain (YV) and 10% Boushey Vineyard (YV)and is 100% Syrah. The Syrah which received the Silver is a co-ferment w/6% Viognier and is a vineyard blend of 45% Scott Williams (RM), 23% Destiny Ridge (HHH), 22% Boushey (YV) and 10% Elephant Mountain (YV). Both of these wines will be at the Taste Washington Grand Tasting and I invite your readers and commentors to stop by our table (2B) for a taste and discussion. They will also be poured at the Bell Harbor Conference Center for "Education Day" on Saturday.
