Another great NW wine value at Grocery Outlet

As a child in Spokane, my mom took me clothes shopping to places such as Nordstrom and the late Frederick & Nelson.

As a husband, my wife turned me on to the fun of hitting thrift stores. And now I'm hooked on Grocery Outlet, a growing West Coast chain that also includes a wine section.

Today, we are making our way back to the Tri-Cities from Baker City, Ore., so we swung by the new Grocery Outlet store in La Grande. Ore. It's about 1 mile east of Interstate 84.

California always dominates the GO wine sections, but there almost always are a few Northwest SKUs. This time, I spotted the Kestrel Vintners Lady in Red, Fourth Edition.

Retail price? $4.99.

Wine Press Northwest rated this wine "Outstanding" in our Fall 2006. It retailed for $15, and production was 12,200 cases. My notes show it as a blend of Cab Sauv (57%), Merlot (38%), Syrah (3%) and Sangiovese (2%) and a product of three vintages.

By the time I walked out, there were about 10 bottles left at LaGrande store, but I suspect you may find this wine at other Grocery Outlets. Use the chain's Web site to find the location nearest you.

What's the big deal?

Even $5 is too much for that lady in red crap... There's a reason why it's being sold at Grocery OUTLET!! It's crap and nobody wanted it so they were forced to liquidate it.

That's about as bad as buying a Seth Ryan wine..

And what doesn't WPNW rate "outstanding"? the world may never know cause they're too worried about losing advertising if they dare have the nerve to pan a wine... *sigh*...

Where, oh where is the objectivity and journalistic integrity for the Northwest?

Wow, dude

You have some pent-up frustration. Who peed in your Chardonnay?

Who peed in your chardonnay?

heeheeheehaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!

Now THAT was funny........

Darn it!

Darn it! You gave away my secret. I will say that about four years ago and longer, I was able to stop into the local GO (or as we fondly call it the "Used Food Store") and pick up some amazing wines for around $3.99. I picked up many wines that received medals at the SF Chron's Wine Competition. I would buy a couple of bottles, open one that evening and if I liked it rush back and buy a case. I come from a long line of aunts who owned antique stores, so seeking out treasures like that is in my blood. Now, I am not seeing as many wines like that, but I still keep looking. Same with the cheese. I find a lot of great imports there and know a few local caterers who shop there for olive oils, cheese and other goodies. Cheers!
