Colvin Vineyards closing its doors

Colvin Vineyards in Walla Walla has decided to shut its doors next spring. Mark and JoAnne Colvin launched their winery south of Walla Walla in 1999 and relocated their tasting room two years ago to the Walla Walla Airport, taking over the space vacated by Reininger Winery's move west of town.

The Colvins focused on red wines, making several delicious blends, Syrahs and Cabernet Francs over the years.

Most importantly, Colvin Vineyards introduced many of us to Carmenere, the obscure red Bordeaux variety that has gained fame in Chile and now has followers in Washington. Famed British wine writer Jancis Robinson once called Colvin's the best Carmenere she'd ever tasted. Now, a half-dozen wineries make the spicy red wine. They can all thank the Colvins for that.

I'm not sure what the issues are that are forcing the Colvins to retire from the wine industry. They didn't crush grapes this fall and anticipate selling out of their wine inventory by spring.

Colvin Vineyard's closing - Updates???

does anyone have any updates on Colvin's closing?

My sister asked me to stop by on my next WW trip to pick up some Colvin wine she likes.

Their still active web site says they are open Saturday's but so far I have not been able to confirm this via phone or internet.

Colvin

When I was at the Colvin tasting room in January, he said that he expected to sell out of his inventory sometime in the spring. I did notice some Colvin wines at a local (Tri-Cities) Yoke's a few weeks ago, and one or more of them was on sale, so you might look for it at Yoke's or other retail outlets. I've found Yoke's to be a great place to find wine that is sold out at wineries.

Colvin closing

We were there in February and he said he was closing, and would be working to sell out his inventory. He said he just could not devote enough time to it.
