Harvest beginning in earnestIt's the day after Labor Day, and wine grape harvest in Washington should kick in today. We heard scattered reports about some white varieties (primarily Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris) being picked late last week, but the real work should begin now. This morning in Washington's Columbia Valley, we woke up to a bit of rain. Nothing torrential, mind you. Just enough to get the ground wet. Forecast for the rest of the week is close to perfect with highs expected in the mid-80s.
