Learning the law

I discovered a law here in what I previously thought was the free-thinking province of British Columbia.

Last night, our judging group went to Theo's, a Penticton restaurant famous for its Greek cuisine. I'd brought a couple of bottles of Washington wine here to share with my new friends, so I took them to the restaurant, figuring to pay a modest corkage fee.

No such luck. It's against the law to bring your own wine into a restaurant in B.C. Against the law! Apparently, if you want to bring your own wine to a restaurant, you need to go to Alberta.

Only recently was the law changed here that you could take home a partially finished bottle of wine from a restaurant. This silly none-of-your-own-wines-at-restaurants rule should be next.
