Alder Ridge Vineyard manager passes away

It was with great sadness that I read in Sunday's Tri-City Herald that John Farmer passed away at the age of 54.

John was manager of Alder Ridge Vineyard in Washington's Horse Heaven Hills AVA and was one of the folks primarily responsible for planting the 800-plus acre vineyard that overlooks the Columbia River.

I met John last year when we were touring the soon-to-be-approved appellation. He led us through the vineyard, explaining why the site was selected and what the future held for the region.

See our video on the Horse Heaven Hills, which includes part of our interview with John.

The Washington wine industry has lost one of its nicest and most knowledgeable people who was part of one of its most exciting regions.
