The Wine Knows

Eroica, the international Riesling collaboration between Ernst Loosen of the Mosel and Chateau Ste. Michelle of Woodinville, Wash., is a decade old.

The first vintage was 1999, back when the idea of a $20 Riesling was nothing short of outrageous and the great white variety was lost amid the ocean of Chardonnay.

Chardonnay is still king in the United States, but the dynamics have changed, in no small part because of Eroica and Ste. Michelle's dedication to Riesling, which is now the No. 1 wine grape in Washington.
