We can't always hit all our favorite wineries in the region on each visit, so a trip to Yokes is a blessing. We can load up on our favorites for great prices. I was able to get a bottle of Jones Winery Chardonnay, which was great because they were closed when we went by. I wish a store here on the west side of the mtns would devote such a large amount of space exclusively for Washington and other Northwest wines.

That's funny, Andy. I just read that article via the WPNW Facebook page and link! Ya just gotta love the Girl Next Door "Roll In The Hay" chardonnay name! I might buy a bottle (if I can find it) just because I like the label.

I don't know what town you live in, but if there is a Yokes Fresh Market nearby, check out their wine selection! In Spokane, a very knowledgable guy named Grant Gondry is in charge of the wine selections and purchases. He is based out of the Spokane Valley store, and there are wine stewards in all of the stores, but Grant is the head guy. He used to be the sommolier (hmmm... that isn't spelled right...) at Wild Ginger in Seattle, and this guy absolutely knows his stuff. He has brought in several wines I have recommended to him, including the Chandler Reach Monte Regalo and Corella. He also keeps the prices, overall, the lowest in the entire Spokane region. The Seven Hills syrah is selling for $15.78 right now, and they have several cases. A few months back, he had the Woodward Canyon syrah (2004, I think) for about $24! Apparently Rick Small was trying to clear out some inventory before the next vintage came out, so Grant bought a bunch of it at a screaming deal. A few weeks back, they had the San Juan Vineyards Yakima Valley syrah (2005, I think) on sale for $11 - reduced from $21.99! They always have killer deals, and they have one of the best selections of northwest wines I have ever found, especially his store in the valley.

Anyway, if you have a Yokes nearby, check them out! I know there is one in the Tri Cities if you are in that area.

We actually had the Lenore syrah tonight. Not a bad bottle, but if I am honest, it wasn't as good as I was hoping for. It was obviously press wine, which I expected to a certain point. Tons of dark fruit, more along the bing cherry and ripe plum lines... it was fairly low acid, which hurt the wine to me since it had such a super ripe fruit profile to it. It had a nice midpalate, which had some oak spice and a touch of pepper, but the finish faded very quickly. In that price range, and I think I paid $11 for it, there are a lot of options for an inexpensive syrah, and this didn't give me anything that I can't get for $8 from Australia. For a few bucks more, I can get a Boomtown syrah or even the 2005 Seven Hills Walla Walla syrah, which has been on sale at Yokes lately for less than $16! For a few bucks less, I can get a Columbia Crest Grand Estates syrah, the Yalumba Aussie shiraz/viognier blend (really nice for $10), or several others. Costco has had the Chandler Reach 36 Red lately for $8.99, which I enjoyed more. All in all, it was ok and I suppose it delivered what could be expected for $11, but it seemed pretty one dimensional with a very short finish. I will still try the others, though! The Ryan/Gorman partnership seems interesting. I will search those out. If anyone else has any ideas, pass 'em on!
