Northwest wines rock at first big judging of 2009

The results are in at the 2009 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, which wrapped up around noon today in Cloverdale, Calif.

We're still sorting through the complete results, but I wanted to post the Northwest wines that earned top awards: Best in class, double gold and gold.

I'll try to get the complete list on the Web site by this evening, but here's the cream of the crop. And my thanks to Eric Degerman, Wine Press Northwest managing editor, who was a judge at this year's competition and was emailing me the results as he and his wife drove through the Redwoods on the way home.

NW Wines vs California wines?

Do you know the break down of how many NW wines entered vs California? Percent of metals? I'd be interested to see the ratio of each. (Just asking you might have that material more handy than most.)
I completely agree with the judge Eric interviewed on the video blog. The small wine producer of the NW, the nutrients for the vine if you will, craft some truly great wines. I find it difficult to age them, when they are just that damn good.
