Student winemakers shine

We published a story this morning about student winemakers who fared well against the pros in last month's Tri-Cities Wine Festival Competition.

One of those students was David Volmut, a student at Yakima Valley Community College who also volunteers in the Wine Press Northwest tasting panel back room and is a regular here online.

Congrats to David, as well as students at South Seattle Community College and Walla Walla Community College.

Thanks

Congrats David!

Congratulations to David!

Fabulous job on making an excellent wine that could compete with the "big boys" (ok... and a few smaller boys as well)! What kind of rose' was it?

I must admit... I am a bit jealous. I would love to take some enology courses, even if it were for my own amusement. Alas, with a wife, 6 kids, a mortgage, and a pretty big grocery bill feeding all of these little monkeys, I have to focus on my work more than my play. The fact that you can truly follow your passion is awesome! Good job, buddy.

Cheers!
Tim

Mourvedre Rose

thanks Tim. It was a decision I made to go back to school. Many people work because they like/love their job or because they make enough money to keep them happy. The world I left, think Telecom, VOIP, IPBLA BLA BLA, had the potential for huge buckos, but I wasn't happy. I was good at it, but miserable. (I was a history major for Pete's sake.) So some life changes happened and I decided to move and follow a different path. I love to cook so I thought I'd try my had at making wine. I find them very similar.

It helps that my wife has a job that allows me to go back to school and pursue this interest. Without her support, I might be posting a different post.
Again thanks. My biggest contribution to the Rose was coming up with the name of the wine, Teacher's pet and helping designing the label.
David
